Loyola Students Visit the USA

The friendship between Loyola High School in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, and the University of Detroit Mercy in the USA has fostered numerous academic visits, courtesy exchanges, and collaborative project expansions, strengthening their educational ties and cultural understanding.

On July 7, 2025, seven of our students and a staff member departed for the USA to participate in a collaborative project at the University of Detroit Mercy. This opportunity enabled our students to explore a different culture and expand their project ideas.

Loyola High School offers numerous opportunities that prepare students for the global landscape. This year, we proudly celebrate two of our students who have been awarded full scholarships to the University of Detroit Mercy. They are pursuing their dreams in computer science, a field that excites them and builds on the skills they developed during their time at Loyola.

The education and experiences provided at Loyola have fostered their growth, equipping them with the knowledge and confidence needed to succeed at the university level. Our dedicated faculty and comprehensive programs ensure that students are not only academically prepared but also encouraged to explore their passions. As these two students embark on this new chapter, we are excited to see how they will expand their capabilities and make an impact in the world of technology. Their journey reflects the commitment of Loyola High School to shaping future leaders.

The students were warmly welcomed by their peers at Detroit Mercy, where they shared their Jesuit passions and commitment to the core values of Jesuit education pedagogy. Throughout their stay in the U.S., they explored various places of interest, including historical sites, car assemblies, malls, parks, and scientific institutions. This enriching experience not only allowed them to connect with American culture but also deepened their understanding of the Jesuit mission. The interactions and visits fostered meaningful exchanges, enhancing their appreciation for the Jesuit values that guide their education and personal growth.

One of the projects presented by our students in the US received an accolade for excellence. As part of the Social Innovation Challenge, it was recognized as the best in the Sustainability and Environmental Impact category. This innovative project addressed the urgent global issue of climate change by proposing a range of practical solutions. The students demonstrated creativity and a deep understanding of environmental challenges, highlighting the importance of sustainable practices for future generations. Their work not only impressed the judges but also served as an inspiration for others to take action in combating climate change effectively.
