English Language
Loyola High School’s English Department is composed of eleven hardworking, joyful members.
ACTIVITIES OF THE DEPARTMENT.
Curricular activities.
Members of the English Department teach English language from Form one to Form six classes.
The department also organizes tutorials for students who have a need for extra classes. Tutorials are initiated for the purpose of helping students master the English language content delivered in class.
Besides teaching, members of the English department also provide guidance and supervision for project different class levels as part of completion of Ordinary level or Advanced level.
Extracurricular activities.
It has been established that learning does not end in the classroom. It goes beyond what learners experience in the classroom situation.
The English department therefore encourages students to participate in extracurricular activities organized in the school. Some of these extracurricular activities include;
- Reading for leisure
- Writing competitions
- Debate competitions
- Quiz competitions
- English Club sessions
Inter- school curricular and extracurricular Activities
Loyola High School’s partnership with St. Paul’s Catholic College in the United Kingdom has provided the English department with an opportunity to participate in Global School’s Partnership (GSP) curricular projects.
Curricular projects prepared and implemented under GSP English Projects include:

- Challenging Assumptions and Perceptions (CAP)
- Diversity of Literature Projects
Through the English department, Loyola High School students also participate inter- school competitions such as Writing Competitions and Debate Competitions.
Meetings
The English department holds meetings to plan and asses the performance of the department in both curricular and extracurricular activities.
The English department envisions Loyola High School graduates who are not only articulate in English but also useful members of the Tanzanian society and the world at large.
